Jerry’s Jerky was born with the idea that 2020 and COVID-19 had been tough enough for everyone and the last thing we needed was more tough store-bought beef jerky filled with chemicals and preservatives. So, we decided to try and make really great beef jerky for ourselves to enjoy daily! There were never any plans on creating a business out of the idea. However, after bringing bags to numerous events with friends and family we kept hearing a few common comments over and over. “I’ve never had jerky like this before! This is amazing!” and “You really have something here! Are you planning on selling it?”
After some less than subtle pushing from close friends to make this a reality we decided it was time to bring our beef jerky to the world. We worked on honing our craft by formulating recipes, finding the best beef and how to cut it, the perfect amount of smoke, and how the heck are we going to package it! We ate A LOT of jerky. Some was good. Some was not. But it was all in the name of bringing you what we believe is the best product on the market.
Jerry’s is a small business and while we would love to grow we truly always want to maintain that small business mindset. We started this idea with the intention of doing things like slicing our beef and mixing our marinade by hand and smoking in small batches to keep it as fresh and consistent as possible and we intend on keeping that motto as we grow.
The number one question we get is “Who is Jerry?” and our response is, Jerry is no one but also everyone. There is no one at the company named Jerry, at least not yet. And it’s not named after any specific person or family last name. Honestly, we just liked the way it sounded. And Jerry can be anyone from a fisherman needing a snack on the water, to a soccer mom grabbing something for her and the kids between games, or the athlete running trails and needing some extra fuel to get over the finish line.
We at Jerry’s come from very differing backgrounds but our key people come from the food and service industry as well as e-commerce and social media.
With close to 20 years of experience, our Director of Jerky has worked in, managed, and been executive chef in numerous restaurants, as well as having, most recently, worked on the sales side of the industry helping supply some of the best restaurants in Chicago. To say he knows a thing or two about food, recipe development, and what it takes to deliver a great product to his customers over and over again is a bit of an understatement! He has always been a passionate jerky eater but got to the point that the store-bought stuff just wasn’t satisfying him anymore and decided it was time to start making his own jerky. Now he creates amazing jerky every day while making people smile and creating new and interesting flavors to keep all of his fans guessing what is coming next!
